My freaky movie (explained)

It's not that I fell that I have to explain my movie trailer but I have been thinking about it a bit and I thought I would share a some what interesting fact about me.
As some of you might know I will not watch scary movies. They really upset me and I cant stop thinking about them for days after so I just don't watch them. As a child I couldn't even watch the Michael Jackson thriller video due to the Werewolf part. Once at age 7 caught a glimpse of it playing on a tv in the electronics department at Bradlees and was so freaked out by it I still remember the experience vividly today at age 33. As an adult it was the Blair Witch project in which I bailed with in minutes of a 12am showing with my friends(who had already bought me a ticket) to save the embarrassment of having to cover my face during the entire film.
So what I'm trying to get at is that some might find it a bit strange that I would even attempt to make a "scary" movie trailer for my entry to the smackdown.
The funny thing is that I think with this gut fear and the right script I would be the most perfect person to make these types of films. No one can freak them selves out better then I can. My imagination runs wild at times and I know I could put that on film. I'm not here to tell you that I'm going to run away from my business and start making movies but if you do see me make more of these don't get to freaked out I'm just as scared as you are :)

Trailer Smackdown

So I have been working a little secret project over the last few weeks that I want to tell you about. My good friend Jim gave me the heads up that Brattle Theater in Cambridge MA. was putting on a homemade movie trailer contest and suggested we submit something. Well it turns out Jim and I couldn't get our schedules together so I went a head an made one on my own.
The contest rule just made me have to do it. As many of you know I'm a sucker for these" just for the fun of it "art projects and try to take part in any that spark my interest.
Ok now for the rules.

1) All the trailers must share the same title from as-yet-unmade film entitled simply "Union Street"

2) Each filmmaker (or filmmaking team) will be required to incorporate certain elements (genre, location, character type, action, etc) into their trailer. This was the most changeling part of the contest by far.
Here is a little sample of some of the elements that could be used
Character : Chef,Ghost, Giant Monster, Rock Band, Delivery Man, Lawyer, Andy Warhol
Action: First Date, Fishing,Baseball, Dance-off, Duel, Pie/ Food Fight, Bicycle Chase
Location: Funeral,The Mountains,Theater, School, Office Building, Harvard Sq., Zoo
Genre: Action, Horror, Musical, Romance,Western, Historical epic,Teen Comedy

3) All trailers must be under 2 minutes

4) Trailers can not appear online before the contest (hence no video to share here... yet)

That's it!

So.....the big news is that I just got word yesterday that my film was selected to be I'll be part of the screenings!
I'm so excited!!!! I shot the entire thing on Canon 5d Mark 2 and I have to thank my cast.
My Dad Frank Sr- who after every take would ask " what is this for again"
My sister- in-law Sonia for taking some big risks in playing a news caster
and last but not least
My trusted assistant Ashley Abel who let me to run her through the woods and kill her several times.

The Screenings/Judging will take place on Thursday July 16th at the Brattle Theater, 40 Brattle Street, Cambridge MA. Doors open at 8:00 and we will be screening the submissions between 8:45 and 9:30, right after the first set from the Poverty Line Old Time Band. If anyone is in the area that night please stop by!!! It should be a fun night.
