Emily and Jay

Hope every one had a happy and safe memorial day weekend. I had some family in town so I kept it sort of low key but it was nice just to relax and eat way too much.
the weekend before I shot wedding number 3 of my year Emily and Jay at the US Coast Guard Academy in New London CT.

Emeril Lagasse flash set up

OK so I have had a few request to explain my flash set up for my Emeril shoot. The shoot took place at RJ Julia's Book sellers in Madison. The building is a notorious light sapper so I knew I would need some extra lighting for the short shoot time I would have with Emeril himself. I only had four frames to get this right so I set up well before he even got into the store.
Here is a over head diagram of my lighting set up the image I shot of Emeril with Sonia and Desiree.

I used 3 canon 550ex's and a canon speedlight transmitter ST-E2 for this set up. The flash to the right of the camera served as my main light source. I had built a small clap rig for a flash before the shoot at mounted that top of a near by book shelf (aka a instant light stand)
Next I placed a flash near the subjects and pointed it towards the wall so that it was only bouncing a little light back on the tops of their heads. The final flash was place behind the subjects to illuminate the back ground a bit more.

Testing After Effects

So on Thursday when I should have been doing a million and 1 things I decided to learn how to use
After Effects . I sat down with a tutorial and for like 9 hours straight I worked on 16 seconds of video/effects. This is what I came up with.

NFL Draft 2009

As most of you know I have been lucky enough to have the NFL ask me to cover their annual amateur draft the past few years. In the past I have been asked to come in a few days early and photograph the potential first round draftees as they travel about New York for different events. This year I was a bit different and I was only invited to the draft itself so I'm a bit slim on the behind the scenes stuff. I still had a great time shooting it and hopefully get a chance to shoot again next year.

Morning of my 33 year

Morning of my 33 year...boy putting that way kind of makes it sound like a prison term but it's anything but that. Well anyway today is my birthday and felt I should document the way I looked this morning just after rolling out of bed :)
